Inaugural Plan B Event Tonight at Churchill’s Benefits Your Wallet, Planned Parenthood
The recent flap over the Susan G. Komen For the Cure attempt to defund Planned Parenthood served as a wake-up call — and, luckily, a rallying cry. In the wake of that barely averted crisis, hundreds of thousands of dollars from other donors, both individual and corporate, rolled in to Planned Parenthood headquarters. That outpouring of support has yielded at least one major coup for South Florida: a new, state-of-the-art health center in Wellington. The center, which opened this spring, specializes in affordable preventive services, from cancer screenings to pap tests to well woman exams.
Still, the fight against a mounting women’s health-care crisis, one that’s particularly dismal in Florida, is far from over. But the battle doesn’t have to be so dour. Tonight, you can donate time and money to the cause by being relatively frugal and irresponsible by drinking mid-week! Head to Churchill’s for the inaugural edition of Plan B, a new anti-ladies night, ladies night, spearheaded by Tatiana Hernandez. All proceeds from the evening go straight to Planned Parenthood.
If ladies’ nights are patently ridiculous, this one is purposefully no-frills. Starting at 6 p.m., show up for a laid-back hangout that includes open DJ slots — bring your records and play whatever you want. Late-night karaoke starts at 11 p.m., and you can suck down a “sour puss” drink — vodka and lemonade — for just $3. To hammer home that this is an event for women — and the men who want to keep them healthy — women get in free, but guys have to pay $5. This works out as a great litmus test. If your potential dude date balks at that, do you really want to keep him around? Food for thought.
Plan B. 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Wednesday, May 30 at Churchill’s Pub, 5501 NE 2nd Ave., Miami. Admission is age 18 and up. Call 305-57-1807, or visit churchillspub.com.
